JUNGLEPUSSY - Satisfaction Guaranteed

Based in Brooklyn, Junglepussy is a typical product of the hip, bohemian and progressive environment of New-York. Her background shows this. Before starting rapping, Shayna McHayle was attracted by fashion - beyond the sexual connotation, her blaze refers to her taste for leopard prints. And also, after she was revealed by Erykah Badu with the song "Cream Team", a stripper anthem, she rubbed shoulders with Le1f, an ardent defender of the queer cause.

JUNGLEPUSSY - Satisfaction Guaranteed

Pride and self-assertion are also Junglepussy's main concerns on Satisfaction Guaranteed. This first mixtape is, first and foremost, a feminist manifesto. The cover art and the title suggest that she wants to offer herself to men, but in reality, even though she boasts about her sexual prowess on the erotic ego-trip "Nah", her objective is the absolute opposite.

As soon as with the first track, the formidable "Want Some Mo", a duo with Hotel Mel, Junglepussy takes full control of her sexual life, or even her partner. On "Picky Bitch Checklist", she claims she chooses her lovers in a quite exclusive way. She is possessing and domineering on "Fuck Texting". And if she criticizes her sisters on "Bling Bling", it is because they abandon themselves to males. She, on the opposite, like she pretends by the beginning of "Satisfaction Guaranteed", wants to free herself from their tutelage.

The satisfaction that Junglepussy guarantees here, is primarily her own. Her subject matter is her own self, as mentioned on the introspective conclusion "Me". Satisfaction Guaranteed is a gigantic ego-trip, full of hedonistic and materialistic watchwords, she delivers with pride, aggressiveness and confidence, like with the great "Ready 4 Action".

All over, these are the typical lyrics and poses of rap music, but appropriated by a woman; or several women, such as with "Curve 'Em", a collaboration with Chicago's Tink, or "Mi Nuh Care", with a brief intervention of her friend Dai Burger. Her feminism, Junglepussy demonstrates it once again on "Me", when she talks about influent females such as rappers Foxy Brown, Lil' Kim and Missy Elliott, singer Brandy, dancehall star Patra, and of course Erykah Badu.

To strengthen the point, and with the help of Shy Guy - a collaborator of Joey Badass - Junglepussy opts for very diverse beats. In the New-York tradition, some of them are rich with samples, and sometimes jazzy, like on "Me". But also, they sound electronic on "Fuck Texting" and the bonus freestyle on "Satisfaction". They are weird on "Curve 'Em", ambient on "Kick It", or experimental on "Mi Nuh Care".

In addition, the rapper alludes to her Caribbean origins, through the beats on "Bling Bling", or the peculiar tone and patois of "Mi Nuh Care". This mixtape, actually, is a suite of bold excursions, which is quite logical with a rapper who, like her, wants so show constantly that she can be fearless.
