What is Fake For Real?
Launched in 2005, Fake For Real is a French blog dedicated to rap music.
It is the heir to several webzines dedicated to hip-hop, including Nu Skool and Hip-Hop Section, which both played a critical role in introducing indie rap artists (Company Flow, Buck 65, Atmosphere, Living Legends, Shape Shifters and many others...) to the French speaking audience by the late 1990's and early 2000's.
Who is behind this website?
Fake For Real is mostly updated by the editor of those websites, who is also in charge of rap reviews at POPnews, a major pop / rock webzine in France.
He is also the author of four books about hip-hop music, and dedicated to:
- The history of rap: Rap, Hip-Hop
- The indie rap movement of the late 90's : Rap Indépendant
- The rap mixtape : Mixtapes
- Female rappers : Ladies First
All are written in French.
In which language is Fake For Real written?
The major part of this blog is written in French, there.
The English version of the website is a shorter one. It only contains transcriptions of interviews with English-speaking rappers, producers and other musicians, and some reviews we decided to translate. Apologies for any language mistake you may notice, please keep in mind that we are not English native speakers.
