"Big Business", Trapland Pat's signature song, is a minimalistic gem, a song so stripped and simple, that we still wonder why it is so pleasant. Naturally, whenever a rapper finds a great recipe, he leverages it as much as he can. That track, indeed, featured on two of his projects. Last year, Trapland Pat released a remix with a fellow Floridian: Rick Ross, no less. And three years after 2020 Vision, the album originally featuring it, that version is available on his latest record.
Since last year's Trapnificient, it is clear that Trapland Pat is more than a one-hit wonder. And actually, on this Professor Trap produced once again by his partner PepperJack Zoe – plus a few others – the rapper remains at his best. The new "Big Business" is not the only highlight of this "mixtape". There are other great singles there, like "Blackstreet" – with Luh Tyler, another Floridian rising star – and "Z Land".
And there is "Spoof", with Tee Grizzley, that mixes the Florida and Michigan styles, and where both men brag about their daily lives as dealers, with a bit of darkness and self-deprecation (Trapland Pat is still a funny one). And later on, "Real Spill" is another great duo with a Detroit rapper, GT.
Professor Trap is not as strong as Trapnificient. But it has good songs, an ideal number of guests, diverse styles and voices, and a good balance between trap bangers, light songs – "Where Is (Billy Jean)", with his label's boss Fredo Bang – and a few contemplative tracks – the great soul music moment that is "Inside Looking Out". It shows once again that Trapland Pat is more than just a momentary phenomenon.
